New Years Resolution

So far I have done 1 day of Jillian Michaels 30 day shred and 1 day (55 minutes) of turbo jam. I have decided that I like turbo jam way better. It is so much fun and REALLY works my abs (mine along with 95% of every woman's problem spot)

Let's just see how long I can keep this up...

Christmas x5

And finally, the madness is over. We survived! 5 entire christmases and we all survived! Aden was a little grumpy and VERY overwhelmed. He still hasn't touched half of his toys. We are introducing a couple a week. His favorite so far are his books and his Woody Doll.

It's beginning to look a lot like...

...CHRISTMAS!! Only 5 more days! Well, 3 days until extravaganza part 1 of 3 starts. Monday is baking cookies and buckeyes day, Tuesday is a nice relaxing day (only one of the week), Wednesday is packing day and then over to Jamie and Fred's!

It seems like Aden is doing a new thing every day lately. He has learned how to open drawers (by the knob handle, not the top) and pull out things. His favorite drawer is the one with all the whisks. We have at least 5 whisks that he pulls out, walks around with in his walker, drops them on the floor, and then goes back to get another one. I don't know what I'd do without his walker.
Today he actually army crawled! He doesn't pull up on anything yet but he sure does try to crawl.

Also, today I had a GREAT parenting moment, truly fantastic. Aden was walking around in the walker in the kitchen like he usually does. I went into the fridge to grab some chocolate covered pretzels (yum) and was in there a max of 45 seconds. About a minute later, I see Aden walking around with a blue cap. Not a big deal, I figured my mom gave it to him. He seems to be entertained by lids. Another minute passes (probably less than that) and I look at him, he seems to have something all over his face and hands. I grabbed the cap out of his hands... it was the lid of the Dijon Mustard. Do not ask me how I did not notice he was in the fridge with me, let alone how he got the cap off!!! That stuff is SPICY too! He seemed to be fine and actually cried for more... I gave him some water and crackers to wash it down. I think I need more sleep.

He has been waking up at 5 lately! This morning it was 5 and 7. He took one nap at 9:30-11:30 and that's all I got. He went to bed at 6:30 so you can bet i'll have another early morning tomorrow. Friday morning he was up at 2 or something crazy like that. I was so tired that I put his diaper on backwards. How did I even get the flaps fastened?! I do not recall a diaper change ever occurring. Once again, good parenting.
Aden babbles like a little man now. He just talks non stop. He can also clap really well! He almost has the "how big is Aden? SO BIG!" down, and is really starting to want to wave. 9 months is such a fun age for us! Right now I am loving the limited mobility. If he wants to move, I just put him in the walker. If I don't want him to move, I lay him on the floor.

I love that walker but MAN, the thing has destroyed our christmas tree. Okay, maybe the baby IN the walker destroyed it, not the thing itself. We have gold garland strung over the lights and Aden has removed it about 125 times now. I'm thinking next year we might have to omit the garland. He hasn't gotten into any of the presents yet, thankfully. They are in a corner that his walker can't get to so I don't even think he knows they are there.

So I bet you all are asking "What does ELLYN want for christmas?". Clothes. I need clothes. I think about every sweater I own is about 3 or 4 years old. By every sweater I mean the 3 that I have. I don't weigh much over what I did before I was pregnant but 14slim jeans just ain't cuttin it anymore. That is all I want for christmas. Clothes. But, this christmas isn't about me of course, just Aden Joseph.

OH! I did something really neat on Wednesday. Well about 2 weeks ago I got some research thing in the mail saying if I signed up I would win a $50 giftcard to Victoria Secret. Being the loser I am, I signed up. What's the worst that could happen? It was a 30 minute talk (so it said) and a free giftcard. Plus it was on a wednesday so I could have Ryan's mom watch Aden for a little! Guess what? I GOT A $50 GIFT CARD TO VICTORIA SECRET. All I had to really do was talk about what I liked about the store and what not. Of course I spent it right then. I've been wearing the same bra for 2 years now. I don't even wear the size anymore.

I've also made a New Years Resolution already. I think I've made one once in my life and I can't even remember what it was. I obviously stuck with that one really well. Anyways, my resolution is to take better care of myself. I'm so stuck on being a mommy and doing everything I can for Aden, sometimes I forget about myself. I'm going to try to do my hair more often (meaning style and dye it), I'm going to try and lose my "loose jelly" - I'm not even kidding, that's what my mom told me I had today. I'm going to paint my toes and nails more often, and I'm going to get dressed more often. This probably sounds like I'm a huge scrub, but getting dressed seems so pointless to me! haha, I'd rather be in comfy clothes then 4 sizes too small pants. I'm thinking Ryan might appreciate this as well.

Well! I might post before christmas, I might not. I might not even post before New Years. You never know! Good night all!

'Tis the Season!

December is here! December is here! And guess what? only 15 more days until our family starts celebrating! That's right, 15. On the 23 we are doing a Kiger christmas eve and celebrating with the Kiger family on Christmas Eve morning. Then we're doing Ryan's moms house, then the whole christmas eve thing with my family and christmas morning with them. THEN heading down to lancaster to do a Kilbarger christmas and the other Kiger christmas. Can you say busy? I'm so excited!!

I have wrapped most of my presents, probably 5 or 6 of mine left. I've also wrapped all of Charla Rae's presents. I have promised both of my sisters, my mom, and Ryan that I would wrap for all of them. It's not that I am a good present wrapper or anything, it's just that I really like it! So hey, if you need me to wrap some presents, just let me know! I think I have done about 40-45 so far. Not too shabby!

So, how bad is it that I want to open Aden's gifts and give them to him now? You have no idea how sick I am of those leapfrog songs on his one toy. I noticed that 90% of baby toys have lights, music and/or sound. What happened to wooden blocks and a dog that moves its ears when you pull it? I've got to admit, most of what I got Aden does sing songs or light up. But this kid needs some serious entertainment.

Aden is so close to crawling! He gets up on all fours and rocks back and forth. If he was more patient and just kept working on it, he'd have it by now. I can't believe Aden is 9 months old! We had our doctors appointment yesterday and he weighed 19 1/2 pounds (on an empty belly) and was 28.5 inches! He might have been a shorty when he was born, but not anymore! It's a good thing we just changed from his infant carseat to his convertible Recaro seat because the weight limit is 20 and the height limit is 26. shhh, we might have been using it a little too long. He only got one vaccine yesterday (Hep B) and was given the O.K to eat pretty much anything. No nuts, candy, gum, or shrimp (pretty much a given to me) but that's about it. W
e
are lowering the amount of formula Aden gets down to about 25 or 30. He has been eating about 45 ounces a day, an unheard of amount. This way Aden will be more hungry for table food. 9 months is an awkward time because they still need formula in their diet, but they need to start transitioning to real food.

Speaking of 9 months, they say 9 months to gain it, 9 months to lose it. I'd say in my case that is pretty darn true. I have lost more than my goal weight (105) and am down to 103. Of course I won't be able to fit into most of my jeans ever again, but I'm still really happy with the way I look. I'm also pretty excited because I can actually fit into gap and american eagle! yay for them baby hips! Maybe I'll be swimsuit-ready by the summer!

I think I will stop counting Aden's teeth now. I think after the first 4 teeth it isn't as fun. Aden has 8. Yes, 8. The eighth one just popped this morning I think. Number 7 popped yesterday. I don't even realize they are coming in anymore. The only reason I noticed 7 & 8 was because Dr. Brown said they should be coming in pretty soon. When we looked in his mouth, yep, there they were! Dr. said I should be getting a teething "break" after this. Hopefully so. In less than 3 months he has popped out 8 of those teeth! I remember at his 6 month check up he had NO teeth and no sign of them either. 1 week later, there they were!

SCHOOL'S OUT! WOOOO! I took my finals last tuesday and on Saturday and finally finished my terrible chemistry class. We only had 5 tests the entire quarter that were worth 500 points. There was only 615 points in the entire class. 60 of those points were the lab quiz. The rest were for 24 hours of lab. The test took about 2 hours to read the material, 2 hours to study, and an hour and a half to take the test. Imagine how hard this was with a baby who doesn't nap. The tests were supposed to be due today at 5 pm but I got them done last wednesday! It feels so good to know that I got through some really hard classes this quarter! Bring on anatomy at 8am on sunday baby!

As I'm sitting here sipping my hot chocolate and watching Aden run around in his walker, I realize how fast time is going by. I wish for just a moment I could go back to March 7, 2009 and do it again. I am so blessed to have such a perfect, precious little boy. Watching him grow is the best thing ever, but also so scary. -- Sorry to break the sentimental moment but my perfect son just made a perfect BM everywhere. Great timing right?

Aden's first haircut

All the wrapped presents!
Baby Mohawk!
After his haircut
Before his haircut
Toys in the closet
On November 29, Aden had his very first haircut. It was getting really long, especially over the ears. I swear, when Ryan was finished, Aden looked like a little boy, not like a baby. I was taking SO many pictures until Ryan finally told me to cut it out. It was just so sad. He is almost 9 months old.

Christmas shopping is finally done! I started in early November and just picked up what was on sale if I went out. I may have gone a bit overboard on Aden but it's his very first christmas and he IS my first baby! AND it was all on sale. AND he hardly has any toys to play with now. I'm not kidding. He plays with chewed up plastic blocks (the dumb dog chewed them, and yes I have thoroughly cleaned them) a baby elmo toy, and a plastic cup. I think by this time next month, the entire basement is going to be baby land....

Aden's Christmas Gifts (that I know of already)
- Playskool busy ball choo choo
- Playskool ball popper
-Playskool step start walk and ride
- Dunk 'n cheer basketball
- Alphabet Peek-a-blocks
- The Story of Christmas (He will get this one christmas eve)
- Trucks (a book)
- Poppity Pop Train
- My Pal Scout
- Pink Floyd T-shirt
- 2 pairs of jeans
- Disney's greatest cd
- Baby Einstein cd
- Peek-a-boo choo choo
- Peek-a-boo frog
- Happy dump truck
- Fisher-Price Polar Coaster
-"Where the Wild Things Are" stuffed animal
- one onesie and two pairs of pajamas (one set he will open christmas eve)
-V-tech move and crawl ball
- Touch and feel animal book
-"Love you Forever" (it's a classic)
- Sillytown

See what I mean? The polar coaster alone is 4 feet long. the Sillytown is probably another 4 feet... I think I could invite an entire daycare over for a day and successfully entertain them all. So, who wants to have a baby party?!

I finally finished wrapping all gifts! Let me tell you, online shopping is the best. I didn't even have to do the whole black friday thing because by then, all I needed was 3 things that I could get any day, anytime and they'd still be the same price. I was so exhausted Thursday night, I couldn't imagine waking up at 2 a.m to just go shopping.

Speaking of Thursday, we had a GREAT turkey day! It started off at noon, going over to Charla Rae to eat with my family (it was my dad's birthday). We left at 2:45 and headed 45 minutes down to Lancaster. There we played games and hung out with Ryan's dad's side of the family. We left at 5:30 to go to Ryan's mom's side to eat thanksgiving dinner again. It was so much fun. We got back at about 10 that night. So much family, so much love!

I think I have finally recovered from Thursday, It was really exhausting. I think we'll have to come up with a more laid back schedule when it comes to Christmas! Ryan and I really have learned to relax and just go with the flow. We know that nothing will be perfect and to just take things a little at a time. We come up with a general schedule and then just adjust it as we go.

Aden now has 6 teeth. 4 on the bottom (the 4th JUST popped through) and two big beavers on the top! He is getting so old! He can sit up really well now and is trying so hard to crawl. I can't wait until his 9 month appointment to see how tall he is and how much he weighs! When i weighed him a couple weeks ago, he weighed about 20. He's GOT to weigh more now. My arm is so sore from carrying him around.

School for me is going well. I have finals next week and am a little nervous. I still have 3 chemistry tests to take by december 5. Just a LITTLE freaked out by that. I just finished all of my medical terminology tests and worksheets. 17 worksheets ranging from 1-2.5 hours each. So glad that is over.

I think I am missing something, if I remember it, I'll write tomorrow. It's 12:09 a.m and I have no idea what I am doing up. Nice one Ellyn.

It's NOVEMBER!

I am in complete disbelief that the year is almost through. Last November I was going to school full time, working full time, and was just told that our little peanut was a BOY! Where does the time go? My little peanut will be 8 MONTHS next Wednesday. Oh, and today is my half birthday!

My one midterm (I already took the other one and I don't have one in Chemistry, thank goodness because I would be failing that as of now) is on Saturday. I also resume my chemistry class on Saturday from 4-7:50. 3 down, 3 more to go! Thanks to Ryan's mom, I get Wednesday's all to myself and am able to study! My midterm is worth 30% of my grade.... crap.

Thanksgiving is coming! Thanksgiving is coming! I wish I had an excuse this year to eat twice my body weight in food. The good thing is, we will be eating at both the Kiger's AND my house. Next year we'll be eating with the Kilbarger's (Ryan's mom's side) and my house. Yay for two thanksgivings!

I ordered Aden's stocking! It is just the cutest thing. I was going to make it, and might make one next year when I have more time, but this is just precious. Its in the shape of an elf shoe with a green ball at the end, the body is red and the cuff is green with ADEN on it. It has white buttons sewn all over it. SO cute.

So I was looking in my bookshelf the other day and noticed that I still have "The Baby Book" by Dr. Sears, TWO of "the Womanly art of Breastfeeding", "100,000 Baby Names", "Your Pregnancy week-by-week", "What to expect when you're Expecting", and "What to Expect the First Year". The only real book I have in there is "Gone with the Wind" (best book/movie ever). I think I should probably start reading real people books. Any suggestions?

STUPID TIME CHANGE. Why does this even happen? An hour messes up my schedule WAY more than one would think. Aden is now waking up at 5:30 instead of 6:30 and not falling back asleep. That is painful. He is also getting into the habit of NOT taking naps. This kid has got more energy than the energizer bunny. He never stops moving. We lowered his crib mattress because he has been trying to pull down the bumper to pull himself up. Luckily he has failed to do that so far. Let's hope that continues for awhile. I don't even want to think of baby proofing this house. What a nightmare.

Aden in his walker is RIDICULOUS. He loves the gold knobs on the cabinets and he loves the dishwasher. I literally have to walk behind him for 30 minutes because otherwise he will pull towels off, purses off, knockdown chairs, and bang on the front of the stove. This is going to be trouble.

We have started to add more solid food during the day. We tried to do that earlier but I don't think he was ready. He always fell asleep before his last feeding and it just didn't work out. We also give him a lot of table food. He gets bread, pancakes, mashed potatoes, tiny pieces of chicken to mash up, pasta, veggies. They are pretty bland things and not really for nutritional value, just to get him used to mashing things up with his jaw. He eats oatmeal and 1/2 jar of 2nd food Gerber fruits for breakfast, 1 jar of Gerber 2nd food veggies for lunch, and for dinner he has 1 jar of 2nd food Gerber dinners. For snacks he has Gerber puffs, Cheerios, juice diluted with water (80% water, 20% juice) , or just plain water.

Orajel has once again become our best friend. With the top tooth and the side bottom tooth through, he is in some pain. We also have the other top tooth and other side tooth coming in. Poor child! The only thing that I hate about Orajel is having to stick my finger in his mouth and put it on his gums. He always bites me! OW!

Okay, I'm off to go Christmas Browsing!!!!

Halloween, Batmitzvah's, and more teeth

Well let's face it, I have failed miserably in the month of October. This is only my second post the entire month! Maybe I'll post one tomorrow too- but probably not :). So where to begin?! Aden Joseph is finally sitting up. He has his occasional tips, like the one yesterday where I just wasn't fast enough to catch him... I had a pillow behind him but of course, he decided to fall forward. The bump was ALMOST gone until he hit his head with the baby monitor that he was playing with. *safe toy to play with, I know, but I was unaware of the fact he was holding the monitor.

Speaking of inappropriate toys, Aden plays with the weirdest things and I have no idea how he gets them. One day he was in his exersaucer and there was a sock of his on the floor.. completely out of reach, or so I thought. I left the room to grab something and came back and the sock was in his mouth. What the heck! I have also found him stuffing his face with Ryan's socks and my underwear. Both clean thank goodness. I was appalled.

Something exciting happened today! I got formula on sale for $19.97 instead of $22.49! How awesome is that?! I stocked up on 3 containers, even though we had 3 left at home. He'll be on this stuff for another 4 months. 6 containers will last... hmm, maybe 3 weeks? Most likely less than that. I also got Pampers on sale for $18.97! We made the big switch to Cruisers (even though he is not cruising. Unless you count rolling) instead of Pampers Baby dry. The baby dry worked until I bought a case of them and noticed the outside had changed. Well I guess that isn't all that had changed because Aden would wake up in the morning with his PJ's just soaked. Poops were messy, Diapers were soggy, it just was not a fun period of time. I used as many as I could but I just had to stop. Cruisers are doing much better. Powder is a must though because it does NOT "wick away" like the swaddlers do. Good old swaddlers. I miss those soft guys.

On to the excitement! Aden went to his first Bat Mitzvah! He had the CUTEST little outfit on, complete with dark gray corduroy pants, a long-sleeve white button down oxford shirt, and a red, light gray, dark gray, and white striped sweater vest. Sadly, I forgot the camera. Aunt Lizzie had hers so maybe we can get some from her! Aden was great. He lasted from 10-3 and was happy the whole time. We knew it was time to go when he started fussing. We knew it would just get worse. And it did. Of course, right when we got home Aden was all happy and cheerful and wanting to play. What a faker.

HALLOWEEN! WOO! Aden's very first trick-or-treat was on Thursday (why was it on thursday and not on saturday like normal places do?!) He was dressed as an Astronaut with A. Kiger printed above one of the badges. It was such a nice night. Ryan and I just walked around the neighborhood. We decided to opt out of the candy. Next year we'll get candy and sneak some from Aden. Apparently baby didn't think it was that fun because on the walk back, he fell asleep.

I believe babies should come with warning labels. Who would have thought teeth come in 2-3-4 at a time?! I was NOT aware. As of now, Aden has two bottom teeth in, 1 top tooth almost coming through, another bottom tooth a little behind the top one, and another top tooth behind that. I think within a month they all would have poked through. At least Aden has been a happy camper about it! No longer do I have my fuss-all-the-time baby. He is so happy almost ALL of the time. He loves to sit and play with me or the dog. I don't even know what we do all day. He doesn't really take naps.. hmm maybe I should pay more attention. It's been nice out lately so we have been on lots of walks. We went to the pumpkin patch, the park, and played in the leaves. All would have been much better if there weren't so many darn bees.

How terrible is it that I am already "christmas browsing"? Because I think not very. I am mostly browsing for Aden. Not that he'll even care what he gets or doesn't get, just so that I have toys to entertain myself with.... I can only learn so many songs on the baby einstein piano. It only has 5 keys!

My sister is coming! My sister is coming! Erika is coming home Nov 9!!!! Whoopie! Man I need human interaction. We do quite a bit of online chatting about Cafe world though.

School is kicking my butt! I'm on schedule and everything but with a medical terminology midterm coming up... I'm a little nervous. I scheduled my Winter quarter too! I am taking Radiology, Cultural Diversity online (it's required....), and Human Anatomy both online and in class. My in class lectures are 8:00a.m- 12:50 pm on, wait for it....... SUNDAY morning. ahhhh life. And yes, mom. I am aware that I will need to learn the bones in the human body. Thank you.

If I think of something exciting, I'll post tomorrow

Sleep Regression and bath time fears...

Aden is now 7 months old!! He eats 3 solid meals a day and about to 45 ounces of formula (it's decreasing slowly now) and eats stage 2 foods. He has been so happy lately but the past few nights have been hard!

Since Tuesday night, Aden has decided that he is deathly afraid of bath time. He is fine until I set him in the water. He screams like I have never heard him scream before. Last night I got into the tub with him which didn't seem to help at all. What DID help was turning him towards me and away from the faucet. I noticed he seemed to be staring at it. We didn't have a bath tonight but next time I plan to try covering up the faucet with a washcloth and seeing if that helps. It makes me so sad to hear him screaming like that and not know the cause. I can't just STOP giving him a bath though! He is a boy. and stinky!

The past 3/4 nights he has been waking up at 4:00 a.m. I know he isn't hungry, he only will eat 1/4 of the bottle given to him. He is learning that mommy will come get him when he cries...what a smart boy! Anyways, last night he woke up AGAIN and I let him fuss it out. He was back asleep in 7 minutes. He woke up at 6:00 a.m for a bottle and then went back to sleep until 9 A.M!!!!! He hasn't done that in a good long while! It was a nice Sunday treat for both Ryan and I!

School is still going well. I found out on my first day of chemistry (4 hour lab on saturdays) that we only have class 6 times during the quarter! And guess what?! We are done with the first three!!! Now I don't have to do another lab until Nov 7th!! In all honesty though, It is kind of a nice break, even when I do miss all the football games. And chemistry labs are way more interesting than taking notes. Medical Terminology is getting more complicated but I think I have it under control for now. Just a lot of memorization! Calculations and Dosages... well... here's an example of one of our questions: Convert 1/4 into a decimal.
No I'm not joking. It's a nice "refresher" course though and is only once a week. No complaining there!

On Friday, Ryan and I decided to go to the Watterson (where we went to school) vs Desales game. We hadn't gone to a game yet and this one is a big one! Aden stayed home since it was so cold and rainy! It was probably a good thing that he did because my car got towed. Yes, that is $140 down the drain :(

We'll just end on that note.

Worst. Morning. Ever.

Aden woke up at 6 this morning, an hour earlier than normal. He then went back to bed and slept until 8:45. Nice, right? WRONG! Whenever he sleeps in it's always a terrible day. His nap schedule gets all screwed up which then screws up his eating schedule and makes him a very very very grumpy Gus. I get up, make him breakfast (oatmeal and pears) and let my 50 pound golden retriever mix, Ted, outside. He has been hunting this darn mole or gopher or whatever it is outside for about a week now. The thing keeps tunneling below him. To try and catch him he has been digging up the entire yard... including the part with rocks.

Anyways, I guess I kinda... forgot about him in the yard. I was trying to feed Aden! Usually he is out for 5-10 minutes then comes back in. WELL an HOUR AND A HALF later (10:30) I hear Ted barking  to come in. I let him in and TRY to wipe off his feet but the dirt was caked on an inch thick! Aden is crying upstairs in his crib because he is overtired so I take Ted up into the bathroom to give him a bath. I tried just rinsing his paws off (I had forgotten the shampoo downstairs) and I THOUGHT that everything was clean. So when he jumped out I though "okay, no biggie he is fine". WRONG. So very wrong. Luckily the bathroom door was closed. Mud was EVERYWHERE. On the floors, on the walls, all over the rugs, on the cabinets and of course all over the bathtub. I lock him in the bathroom to go downstairs to get dog shampoo. By this time Aden is just furious and screaming for attention. I have to pull the exersaucer out of his room, bring it to the hallway in front of the bathroom, and set him in it. All with one, VERY dirty, hand.

I finally get Teddy all nice and clean when I hear Aden's grunting noise. Great. I wait for him to finish and then take him in to change him. Huge poo. Huge. Luckily not too messy. On to the bathroom. I stick Aden in his exersaucer again and fill the sink with pinesol. I remove all the rugs that are covered in mud, water, and Frank (the  6 pound yorkie)'s pee. Apparently during the process he got scared and just needed to pee somewhere. I then get on my hands and knees and just scrub until the bathroom is sparkling clean. By now it's 11:45 and Aden still has not taken his nap. I decide to attempt to rock him to sleep. It works!!!

I load the washer with the soaking wet, muddy towels and rugs and then eat my lunch of pizza rolls, pickles, and cucumbers.

Now that I look back, it could have been a lot worse.. so I guess I'm....lucky??

Teeth, School, and Walkers

Aden has his SECOND tooth. Those things just keep shooting out! Both of them are about 1/2 way up right now. I think today was the first time in a LONG while that his teeth weren't hurting him. No orajel, tylenol, teething tablets... nothing. He was SO happy! Back to his normal old self. I'm happy to know that the reason he has been so fussy was because of his teeth. I am NOT happy to know that there will be lots more coming.

Aden has gradumatated into 12 month sleepers! Actually they aren't even sleepers. They are two piece outfits (so he doesn't outgrow them as fast). He still fits in a few 9 month sleepers but not enough to last a week. (Laundry day is once a week). No more little lions, bears, or sayings on his little feet. Just boring old socks. Maybe I WILL give in and get a 12 month sleeper. Just one :)

Speaking of growing, man this kid can eat. Aden loves loves loves his solid food--except bananas and sweet peas. Since we tested all of the foods and he didn't have any kind of allergic reaction, we can move onto stage 2 food! Tonight he had the Farmer's Market Veggie Dinner! It had Carrots, Corn, and tomatoes all pureed together. He loved it! Tomorrow we will have oatmeal mixed with Apples and Cherries. Yum yum yum! Solid foods are so fun! Solid food poop is not fun.

Ryan and I both started school today! I've got to say, I have it way easier than Ryan. Ryan goes to school everyday but Friday, Saturday and Sunday. He works full time at a very physical job (lifting 80+ lbs) Monday Wednesday and Friday. On Monday and Wednesday he goes straight from work to school until 7:30. Then he watches Aden 4-7:50 p.m on Sat. and Sunday he has to mow. Talk about NO free time!!! He also is taking a class online! My schedule is a little easier. I go to school Tuesday night and Saturday 4-7:50. I am also taking an online class. Aden is a pretty good nap taker so I think I'll be able to get some studying done. Let's all wish Ryan a great big GOOD LUCK! He is such a hard worker and an amazing dad.

Aden has a new toy! It's the safety 1st walker! I researched for hours online looking for a good walker that isn't hard to move on carpet with. We have hard tiles in the kitchen and wood in the foyer but carpet everywhere else. I looked at all the "top of the line" brands and none of them had good reviews. I chose the Safety First walker from Wal-Mart for only $35. Compared to $70-99, that's not to shabby. Aden just figured out how to move it today- backwards. I keep moving him near me and he disappears. Then I hear a bang against a wall. Silly boy.

I wanted to write down Aden's schedule somewhere so this is where I chose to do it....

between 6:30-7 a.m- Aden wakes up and eats a bottle. Then he plays around with me for a little, usually in the jumperoo

between 8-8:30 a.m- Aden lays down for a nap. He is usually exhausted by now.

between 9-9:30 a.m- Eats a bowl of cereal mixed with 1/2 jar of fruit. Immediately after he eats a 6-7 ounce bottle.

between 10-10:30 a.m- Aden takes another nap or plays in his crib while I get things done around the house

between 11-11:30 a.m- Wakes up and usually we do tummy time

between 12-12:30 p.m-Eats 7-8 ounce bottle

between 3-3:30 p.m- Eats 7-8 ounce bottle

between 5:45-6:15 p.m- Eats 1 jar of stage 1 veggies OR 3/4 jar of stage 2 veggies. Immediately after eats 2-3 ounces

around 6:30/7 p.m- bathtime! Rocking chair with mom. After bath he eats 4-6 more ounces of formula

between 7:30-8:30 p.m BEDTIME :)

Remember When...

Is it just me or are is EVERYONE pregnant?! Seeing everyone pregnant reminds me of 6 short months ago when I was still growing my little bean. If I could do it again (Okay, I'm sure I could but not in the next 5 years please) I would actually get dressed and wear make-up and attempt to look good. The first trimester I was just too exhausted to do anything and the Third trimester I had gained 60 pounds.... Spandex and sweatshirts were my life. When I go to my OB I always look at how adorable all the pregnant women look and think to myself "WHOA! They actually got ready for the day!" If I had known that getting ready after the baby came was a 3 hour process, I would have done it a lot more. I wish I would have shown my belly bump off more. It was winter so that was kind of hard to do, but hey, why not show it if you got it! It's funny because all I wanted was for my belly to grow and grow and then after the baby I'm just wanting it to bounce back to normal. Not happening. Showing off your baby bump? Adorable. Showing off your post pregnancy flab? Not so adorable. It probably doesn't help that my wardrobe fits a 12 year old girl....

I would read books to my belly during the day. LONG childrens books. I should have read more because little did I know that Aden wouldn't be able to sit through only 5 pages. It was so much easier to take care of Aden when he was in my belly. The best part was I KNEW he was protected. I didn't need to worry about what type of formula to give him, when to give him solid food, SIDS, swine flu (yes, I am an anal First time mom). I miss that. prepping for the baby :)

Of course, I am only focusing on the good parts of pregnancy. I guess I forgot to mention the acne,  being congested for 9 months, feet and ankle swelling, lips getting thicker, nose getting wider, itchy belly, being kicked all night, being tired all the time, waking up to go to the bathroom 5 and 6 times a night, stretch marks, leaking, and being so nervous and anxious you don't know what to do with yourself. BUT besides all that, I miss pregnancy.

That being said, I think I like being a mom more! Especially when it's to the cutest little guy ever.

Aden Has Tooth Number 1!

That's right! My little boy has his very first tooth! There isn't much to see right now, just a little white bump. It is a sharp little guy though! When I took him to the doctors a couple weeks ago they tried to tell me he wasn't teething. HA! Mothers Intuition: 1. Doctor: 0. I swear it wasn't there this morning! He has been terribly fussy all this week. Actually pretty much all this month. I put some orajel on his tooth and was darn proud doing it! I pulled teething rings, mesh bags, cold compresses, spoons, and rupert out for him to chew on. His favorite was the cold washcloth. mmmm cold washcloth. Aden isn't really all that into fruit (weird huh?) so the mesh teether with frozen peach inside of it didn't go over too well.

I'm starting to branch out a little bit and give him different things. We started on stage 2 foods! He has only had the Apple Blackberry, which he liked at first but not so much anymore, and Mango. He hates mango. I also gave him some Gerber Puffs. They are kind of like cheerios except they dissolve quicker in your mouth, making them a good beginner food. They are banana flavored, which he also hates, but he did manage to swallow a whole one. He was not too keen on the aftertaste though. There was definitely some gagging.

He is trying so hard to crawl but being 18.5 pounds (yes, I weighed him again and he gained almost a pound and a half. I'm pretty sure I'll be returning his winter wardrobe for the next size up) he just cant get those chubby legs to go! He is also saying new sounds! His favorite is "ba". Today he was in the jumper "talking" and saying "bababab ga baba gaga AHHHH" No idea what he was trying to tell me. He is also really in to clapping. Or should I say WATCHING people clap. I have a feeling that he will not have a quiet childhood.

Ryan and I will both be starting school next wednesday. Scary stuff. I have class Tuesday nights and Saturdays and the rest is online. Not too bad except one of them is Organic and Biochemistry. Ryan will work Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and go to school Tuesday, Thursday, and online. I am also trying to volunteer at the Franklin County Dog shelter at least once a week. I went last week for my first time and loved it! I even get to watch a surgery! AND I'm trying to scrapbook. Being a good mom and doing all this at once will for sure be a challenge but I know I can do it!!!!!

Off to bed for now!

A new month

September is here! In 6 short days my little boy will be 6 months old! Say whaaaaat?! I think this year skipped a couple months because I have no recollection of April, most days of May, June, or the beginning of July. Either I have mommy amnesia or I was cheated by 2009! Though I loved being a mommy to a brand new baby, there are many pros of being a mommy to a 6 month old too!

1. They can stay awake for more than 20 minutes at a time. I swear, no one tells you that for the first 6 weeks your baby does NOTHING. I would even try to wake Aden up sometimes. It did not work.

2. Solids! Aden loves baby food. AND it smells a lot better than nasty formula. The only thing Aden really dislikes is bananas. He obviously didn't get his dads love of bananas! He likes peas more than them. How is that even real?

3. Toys. Instead of just laying there staring at you vigorously shaking a rattle in a desperate attempt to get a smile, they interact! Aden loves to play with rattles, teething toys, and anything hard to bonk himself in the face with. It's also a great distraction if you want to empty the diaper genie and not get stale diapers on yourself.

4. Smiling and Laughing. Aden just thinks everything is funny now. It makes me feel good about myself to know that I can make him laugh so often. I must be a laugh riot!!

5. Sleeping through the night (STTN). No longer am I up every 3 hours walking up and down stairs getting bottles. Aden has STTN for awhile but the past week he has gone through sleep regression, which APPARENTLY is pretty common around 6 months old. No one tells you that either.

6. Personalities. Aden has developed his own little personality. He is an active little guy who just wants food. I believe he got the active part from ryan and the food part from me. Hmmm, I guess his personality isn't that complex yet, but it is getting there.

But there are some cons to my little guy growing up as well.

-1. Personalities. This is a pro AND a con. He is quite feisty and always wants to be entertained. I only have 2 hands and one brain!

-2. Teething. Chewing, drooling, spitting up, fussy, ahhhh the joy of teething. And it's only the beginning :)

-3. Moving. Aden is attempting to bring his knees up to his belly to attempt to crawl. Luckily, his attempts have failed. Hopefully they will fail for a bit longer. He can roll though! He can roll into doors, he can roll off changing tables, he can roll off pretty much anything. The only time he CAN'T roll is at night in his crib. He rolls on his belly, gets stuck, and then cries for someone to flip him back. Smart kid.

-4. Being Clingy. He ALWAYS wants his mommy. As cute as he is, it gets hard during the day. At least I've developed some serious guns for lugging around a 17 pounder. Which brings me to the next negative...

-5. Weight. You heard me right folks. 17 pounds. And not getting any lighter. The clothes just aren't as cute and adorable as they were when he was a 7 pounder. But still, they are just as addicting to buy. It does not add up. And diapers sure aren't as cute either. I get pretty sick of seeing that damn dancing Elmo on my son's toosh everyday. At least when he was in size N, 1, and 2's I got to see some variety of the sesame street characters. Come on Pampers, step it up.

-6. Poop. The force put into pooping by a newborn, not so much. The force put into poop by a 6 month old, LOTS. It's always when people are over too. "Ellyn, is he okay?"..."Yeah he's fine, just his poop making noise".  There have also been numerous accounts of him passing gas in his crib and him laughing about it. Boys are so gross.

Overall, the pros outweigh the cons. I guess they better seeing as I have no say in the matter. I will for sure be having a 6 month "photo shoot" on Sept 7. He is getting his vaccines on Friday, lets all hope that I survive these.

Teething Woes

Why has the time come so early? My little boy is only 5 1/2 months!! Of course he starts teething right when my mom and sister go back to work! The past 5 mornings have been HORRID! It ends with me rocking Aden to sleep sitting up (laying down hurts more when teething) and me slowly creeping over to put him in his crib, where he sleeps for a max of 20 minutes. We have been using the Cry It Out method regularly (he is at the age where we know if he is hungry, lonely, tired, or just bein a fuss pot). He actually even takes a pacifier now. He "chews" on it to make his teeth feel better.. I'm pretty sure he has figured out that chewing on your thumb is not the best feeling.

We are stocked up on Orajel, Orajel Overnight, Tylenol, and Teething toys but we have only used the teething toys. I just don't feel comfortable loading my little guy up on medicine everyday. I know that this too shall pass, medicine or not. Plus this is only the beginning. I want to save it for the BIG stuff :) The teething toys seem to work very well. We have a dragonfly with wings that he loves to chew on, cold or not. We don't really freeze the other toys because they about freeze his little hands off!

So yes, my perfect little napper has now become a fiesty little monster! I can usually get him to take a long nap of 1 hour and then a couple 20 minute ones. He goes to sleep a little later (usually 8) and wakes up a little earlier (6:30). When before he would sleep until 9, now he sleeps until 8. And that is after an hour of yelling and talking to himself in his crib.
Lucky for me, it is the weekend. Ryan has been very very helpful.

Today we went on a family outing! This is rare due to his working 9-5 (getting home at 6) and mowing and errands and such on weekends. We went to Dick's sporting goods, Red Lobster, and TJ Maxx (his favorite store). His goal was to not spend any money since he had gift certificates to all those places, but due to the $30 meal he purchased at Red Lobster... that goal went out the window :)

Aden is interested in all food but his own! He reached into the butter sauce today while out to eat---a true peterson at heart. He has been eating less than usual, which is of course a first time mothers' worry. I am thinking of calling the doctor tomorrow. Which means laundry day would be bumped back to tuesday, Which means grocery day would be bumped to Wednesday. I don't think I can wait that long for laundry so maybe I'll call Tuesday if this persists. I just want to make sure that it IS teething and not an ear infection. Worry worry worry.

On Saturday I went to my Vet Tech meeting! They accept 65 people to the day program and 25 (150 apply) to the evening program. I obviously can only enter the evening program. Last year I applied  and my first try, i was 8 on the waitlist. I asked the lady if there was anything I could improve upon and she said that it was just because she had people who had been trying since 2005 to get in. Last year they had 40 people drop out. This year, 5. All is well though because I will be getting some general classes out of the way so I can have an even lighter workload. It will also give me time to volunteer at the zoo and humane societies! I will be applying again next March, let's hope for the best!

Well I must be going now. I can at least use the last couple hours of my Sunday to relax!!! Maybe not... Aden is still fussing in his crib. Dang those teeth!

Birthdays, Pools, and Pictures!

This week has been so busy! Wednesday, Aden's 'friend' Adam, who is 7 months old, came over along with his mom Sarah! It was great to visit with her and see how much Adam has grown! That night, we went to Fred and Jamie's house to celebrate Fred and Ryan's birthday. Jamie always gets this angel food cake smothered in cool-whip icing for when I come over! I LOVE it!!! On Thursday, Aden and I went to Pippa's to visit with her and Adriana (5 months). Adriana and Aden were so cute together and are really starting to notice one another. It's so funny to see how different boys and girls are! On Friday we had Ryan's old babysitter, her son, their old neighbor, Angie, and Kaitlyn over. It was nice to meet them and watch them play Wizards- a game that I do not understand at all! Saturday at 4 we had Angie, Fred, and Jamie's family pictures. They were nice enough to include Aden and I, like we are really part of the family! The pics turned out great! Sunday we went down to Lancaster to see the Kilbarger side (Angie's side) and we celebrated Ryan's birthday. And of course, Monday was laundry day, bake Ryan a double layer cake day, and cleaning day!

Aden has been doing great on his baby food so far! He is on peas this week and oddly enough, he loves them! I think this big boy just likes food! He is also a really clean eater! He 'wipes his mouth' with his bib a lot. It's a complete fluke but it keeps him clean so I love it!  We switched it up to oatmeal and pears instead of oatmeal and prunes. Both help with digestion but prunes didn't seem to be doing enough. I might start giving him straight prunes, not mixed with oatmeal, or maybe some diluted apple/prune juice. We are going to start using a sippy cup in the next few weeks!

Aden also has been changing up his schedule! For awhile, he'd take 3 long (1-3 hour) naps. Now, conveniently right when I get sick, he is only taking 2, sometimes just 1, long naps. He'll take a couple 10-20 minute ones but let me tell you, entertaining an active baby all day is not so easy! Thank goodness for the jumperoo! He will stay in there anywhere from 15-45 minutes! He also is starting to really like his exersaucer but hasn't caught on the fact that he can't jump in there, though he tries very hard. What is nice about having an active baby is that he tires himself out so much that he has to be in bed between 7 and 8. We do the whole solids, bottle, bath, book, bed. The other night he woke up at 3:30 and was just kicking around in his bed. I didn't dare go in to check on him because I knew he'd want to play! I listened on his monitor and he kicked the button to turn on his "movie" 3 times! After the third time he fell asleep on his own and slept until 7. I was so proud!

Aden also takes a bath in the big tub now. Being 17 pounds and all, he didn't quite fit in his tiny blue tub and used it as a horizontal jumperoo. Bathing him in the big tub is REALLY hard. HE squiggles his little toosh around and flops his arms and kicks his legs. The hardest part is getting under those little neck rolls. It is so worth it though because after the bath, I get to carry him like a baby into his room. That is THE only time he allows me to do that, and it is my favorite!

Ryan has been working 9-5 Monday through Friday. It gets lonely around here and will get even MORE lonely when my mom and sister go to work (My mom starts tomorrow, my sister starts Monday) This weekend Ryan and I are planning to have at least one day together! His friends are all leaving to go to college so i'm sure he'll want to spend some time with them!

It makes me sad that this summer is coming to an end and even sadder to know that my once 6 pound 15 ounce little baby is now a 17 pound 5 1/2 month old baby. I love that he is learning new things everyday but I miss when he was so so little.

Oh dear, I must cut this short, I can hear his feet banging on the sides of the crib....

So long summer....

Time flies.. 8/3/09

Where has the time gone? I remember last year when I was barely pregnant. Fast forward to this year and I have an almost 5 month old who is eating veggies and playing with toys!!

Yes ladies and gentleman that's right, Aden has begun the solid food adventure. Around 4 months we tried cereal and he obviously wasn't ready. We started oatmeal at 4.5 months and he took it, but didn't love it. Just these past 2 weeks he has been introduced to both carrots and sweet potatoes (we are doing orange veggies first). More on this later...

My nephew, Chris, came July 13 and just LOVED his baby cousin. He always asked to hold him and talk to him and play with him. And let me tell you, entertaining a 12 year old and a 4 month old is hard work. Lots of boggle, scrabble, and root beer floats. Energetic child.

On July 26, Aden, Ryan, and I made our way down to Blairsville, GA. The trip down was not bad at all! We left at noon and arrived at 8 p.m. Aden slept horribly the entire time there, due to loud doors and oh yeah, the noise of 17 people and 2 dogs. He was so tired that the first time I gave him carrots, he fell asleep sitting on Aunt Lizzie's lap. Poor kid! We had a wonderful time and I went white water rafting! Thats right, Mrs. Boring went white water rafting. That water was 54 degrees. And it was cloudy and raining. I can be tough too :) Ryan got to go golfing twice! We split up the responsibilities really well and we each got some relaxation time. I even got some color! Ryan made his first set of bottles and also washed them too, since there is no dishwasher there. The family was great and always helped when he was crying. They took care of Aden for a little so Ryan and I could go out for a little boat ride. It was cut a bit short due to some lightning. We left Georgia on July 31 at 9 a.m. The trip back was just awful. Hearing a screaming baby for 8 1/2 hours (the trip back was 30 minutes longer due to "rubberneckers" as Ryan calls them, who like to look at accidents on the other side of the road and create traffic) is not my cup of tea. I was carsick, hungry, hot, and had possibly the worst headache I have ever had. There was some crying on my end too. But hey, we survived!

Since being back, Aden has been sleeping for hours at a time during the day. He has also developed a new feeding schedule. In the mornings he eats oatmeal and prunes (for his digestive system) and in the evening he eats carrots (well, now sweet potatoes) He actually moves towards the veggies and smiles and eats 1/2 the container! He would eat more but I limit him a little. Along with the oatmeal&prunes he eats 5-6 ounces of formula and along with the veggies he eats 6-7 ounces. Every mother chooses to introduce solids in a different way and at different times. Some babies are ready at 4 months while others are ready at 6 months and some mothers even choose to wait until after a year. This is what I have chosen:

We started at almost 5 months on orange veggies. We did carrots for 6 days. Now, we are on sweet potatoes. We will be on sweet potatoes for the rest of the week. Next week, we will start with green veggies.. peas one week, green beans one week, and avocado another. After green veggies we will start fruit! We chose to do fruit after veggies because many pediatricians suggest that if you start fruit before veggies, many babies will reject the vegetables because they are not as sweet and do not taste as good. We are using gerber organic (who really knows how "organic" it is) 1st baby food. Gerber has different stages (1,2,3). the first stage is for babies who are able to sit with support. Second is babies who can sit up and I believe third is for babies who can pull themselves up. I'm not sure about the third stage so don't quote me on that. We will end up starting fruit around 5.5 months.

**This is just MY plan on solids, I do not speak for any mother but myself. **

My nephew just left today, back to Arizona. He starts school August 10! So early! Speaking of school, in Georgia I got online and registered for my classes! I will be taking Organic and Biochemistry, Dosages and Calculations, and Advanced Medical Terminology. I am taking the Hybrid version of Organic&Bio Chem which means I will do most of my work online and go to an actual class one day a week. My class is on Saturday 4pm-750pm. My Math class is actually at the Dublin center and is only on Tuesdays 6 pm to 750 pm. My Adv. Med Terminology class will be completely online. This schedule works out great for me because I can still stay home with Aden. I am thinking about going back to work at the cleaners one or two days a week, but we'll see how that goes. Jobs are scarce lately!

Ryan is camping for the day and will be going to Orientation for college tomorrow! THEN his birthday is coming up on the 15th. What do you even get a 19 yr old dad? Ideas?

7/24/09

Well, lets face it. I suck at updating my blog. Once a week isn't TOO bad though! What's new with my life? Here we go......

Ryan went on a week vacation with his friend Ryan. Ryan and Ryan are BFF's...how cute is that. I was at home alone which wouldn't have been so bad if Aden had not had to get 4 month vaccines at 7:30 on a Monday morning. Tell me please, what doctor schedules a screaming baby appointment at 7:30 on a MONDAY morning. To make matters worse, I heard something going on down in the diapey area and, of course, I had walked out of my house without the diaper bag. Great move on my part. After I went through the embarrassment of telling the nurse that I needed a diaper, I go to change it and NOTHING was in it. Awesome. Our REAL doctor assured us that we are NOT overfeeding him and even gave us free formula. What could be better than that?

When Ryan came home on Saturday he gave me 2 nighties and a pair of pj pants to wear to bed! I guess he is sick of me wearing my Big dog shorts from 6th grade and a Mcdonald's Big Mac shirt from the '80's. Hey, it's the burger with the grown up taste. The PJ pants were HUGE... I think they would have fit when I was 8 1/2 months pregnant... and if I was wearing them over my belly. So Ryan returned them and got me another nighty and my favorite flower! What a guy.

Aden has discovered the wonderful world of chewing on everything and anything. He falls asleep holding the blanket with both hands right by his face and his thumb in his mouth. If he doesn't have a blanket, he just uses his shirt... no big deal.
He also bounces in the tub. As in, pushes his feet against the end and bends his knees and pushes off. I remind him many times that bath time is cleaning time, it is not a jumperoo. Aden also got a brand new highchair! Feeding him oatmeal and prunes was a little difficult with him sitting on my lap! He has the chicco 360 hook-on chair. It's amazing! He even sat with the family for dinner this evening!

Tomorrow we are going on an adventure! Ryan, Aden and I are driving 9 hours (give or take) to the Georgia Cabin! There will be 18 people. I bet you are thinking large, luxurious house with plenty of room to spare. In reality, this is a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom cabin with no tv or dishwasher. Problem? Not for the Cook's! They've done it before and will do it again. and again. and again. We leave Saturday at 11 a.m and will return Friday, hopefully. What do you pack for a 4 1/2 month old? Everything. Any cute onesie that you think they might possibly wear you ust bring. Even if its a size too big, hell they might grow into in 6 days! You must go through all the possible problems. What if they washer and dryer break? what if he decides to have a poop disaster and must use 15 onesies in a day AND the washer is broken? It could happen. Definitely.

Ryan decided it was too much to drive my Jetta for 9 hours so the poor guy rented us an SUV. I think now he will be able to survive the 123 Kids songs that I bought the other day. That's right. 3 cd's, almost 40 songs on each. $9.99. Gotta love Target. This CD has everything on it... Barnyard Boogie AND Old Mcdonald- same song, different drums in the background. It even has a rap version of No More Monkey's Jumping on the bed. And of course, my personal favorite, Greensleeves.

We are comin Georgia Cabin!!!

**We are planning on coming back Friday but we do not know for sure. Ryan's Great Grandfather(Aden's Great Great Grandpa) passed away today at the ripe old age of 96. We will plan our trip accordingly.
